Description

Physical Science introduces the fundamentals of physics and chemistry. Students explore the amazing universe we live in, including motion, energy, the nature of matter and atoms, how chemicals mix and react, and the forces that hold the universe together.

Among other subjects, students study:

  • Structure of atoms
  • Elements and the Periodic Table
  • Chemical reactions
  • Forces, including gravitational, motion, acceleration, and mass
  • Energy, including light, thermal, electricity, and magnetism

Bonus points will be applied to 1st semester, worth possible 20 points TOTAL...whether just going to the museum, just reading current Science events, or a combination of both.  Reports will be graded, and bonus points given depending on quality of work.
 
Local Science Museums (possible 20 points):

  • bring camera (phone ok)
  • bring notepad to take notes
  • include a write up with pictures and notes; explain what you learned and say what you enjoyed most at the museum (It will take a few hours to put together.)

Pros:  Free admission (but $12/car parking), amazing and thorough exhibits, very big and can easily spend the entire day learning, beautiful rose garden outside, and plenty of optional paid activities inside (IMAX, Endeavor, etc.)
Cons: far (next to USC) and could have heavy traffic
2. Discovery Science Center https://www.discoverycube.org/
Pros: close (right off the 5 fwy next to Santa Ana Main Place), recently remodeled and expanded
Cons: Pricey (look online for coupons), can get REALLY crowded (especially over breaks with camp/field trips)
3.  If you travel out of town and visit a Science museum of some sort, that'll be fine, too. 
 
Science Current Events bonus (1 pt/article, total possible 20 points)
 
1.  Look for current events on any Science topic (online, newspaper, magazines, etc.) The article MUST be at least a page in length.  Print, cut, or copy the article.  If you are printing the article, you can copy and paste the articles to minimize printing of ads and maximize your space.  Be sure to cite your source no matter which source you use!  Bibliography format is in the BR.  
2. Write 2 paragraphs in response to reading the article
     a. Summarize the article in the first paragraph
     b. Write the 2nd paragraph on how this news impacts the future.
