Disney Animator Interviewed by Suzanne Students

On Wednesday, January 20th, Suzanne's Advanced Art students were treated with an exclusive Google Hangouts interview with Benson Shum.  Benson's impressive portfolio includes work on Frozen, Big Hero 6, Hotel Transylvania, Wreck-It-Ralph, and the upcoming Zootopia and Moana animated films.  Benson responded to the students' pre-written questions that covered everything from his morning routine to his advice on getting into the industry.  Responding to the question, "What are some ways an artist can improve their skills?", Benson suggested to get out and experience the world, and be observant of how people and animals behave.  He emphasized the importance of collaboration in the animation industry, and pointed out how vital it is for an animator to be a good listener.  Benson blew the students' minds when describing the intense amount of work needed for such a short amount of animated film (10 months of work for a 3-minute scene). Students had the opportunity to follow up Benson's talk with more questions.  To see more of Benson's work, click the link.
